It has been a while since I mentioned the Univega here. I finished building it in the spring with a new red tape job on the handlebars. It looked great.
And it didn’t fit me.
I tried riding it a few times, and I discovered that I just don’t fit dropped handlebars anymore. I felt like a circus bear on a unicycle. It was unstable and no fun. Perhaps the frame was too small for me; perhaps the stem was too low; all I knew was it didn’t work.
Disappointed, I put it away in the barn and listed it on Craigslist.
I was recently cleaning the main garage and came across my North Road handlebars. They hadn’t worked out on the Trek, but perhaps they’d fit the Univega.
It looks a little silly, and I’ve had to order new brake levers. It works, though. I won’t be commuting with it over the winter, as I don’t want to get it salty.
For the next month, though. . .
