HR Absurdity

I’ve had occasion to fill out a few job applications lately.  It seems that every major company now feels the need to administer some sort of psych battery to their applicants.  These invariably include some form of Strongly Agree <–> Neutral <–> Strongly Disagree questions.

I find them annoying.  I find them especially annoying when they will ask factual questions in this format.  I don’t Agree or Disagree that the sky is blue.  It just is, or perhaps it isn’t.  My opinion on the matter is irrelevant.

I also find it laughable when they ask things like, “It’s OK to steal a little bit from your employer.”  What IDIOT is going to check Agree with that one?  Perhaps it’s designed to catch complete morons and those with zero moral compass.

Two questions jumped out at me tonight.  Consider the following:

I disagree with people a lot.

  • Strongly Disagree
  • Disagree
  • Neither
  • Agree
  • Strongly Agree
  • Shall I Disagree that I disagree with people a lot?
    Done laughing?  Engage your brain and look at this one.

    Place the following in alphabetical order:

    1. F2442 – 2
    2. F2444 – 3
    3. F2424 – 3
    4. F2443 – 3

    Uh, what?  This test is in English, right?  Is this another screen for total idiots?  The best I could do was numerical order, sorry.
