Public Safety Geekery (P365 – May 12, 13, 14)

Yes, I’m a geek.  That’s an actual image of the Paramedic 9 on my GPS.  What can I say, the stock ones were boring.

Engines 681, 683 and Truck 68 at company drill at the local elementary school last night.  As IC, I managed to burn the building down and have a firefighter trapped.  Captain Murphy certainly outranks me.  Good thing it was only a drill.

This is not a paramedic hallucination.  Spotted on the Mass Pike this afternoon.  All I know for sure is that it had Connecticut plates.  Interesting marketing.

Alright, I have to ask. What brand GPS, and how in the world did you get that photo on it?

It’s a TomTom OneXL. I don’t remember exactly how I did it, but you connect the GPS to the computer and place a 64×64 JPG in the appropriate folder.

The harder part is creating the image in the first place. For that I used Pixelmator to crop and shrink the photo.

Lucky…I’ve got a Garmin, and the only way to do that is make some weird file that I’ve never heard of.

Of course, it has an ambulance icon available. But, since I’m not in the profession, I just decided to be a beach ball rolling down the highway.
